Upgrade to Mozilla 1.4.1

The software installed on our IBM R31 and R40 models includes the web browser Mozilla 1.2, which is the default for Redhat 9.0. Since we created the laptop image, however, a new version of Mozilla was released that has some significant advantages over version 1.2

better and faster HTML document rendering
better support for CSS style sheets and other Internet standards
automatic blocking of popup windows

The new version of Mozilla will be integrated into the next laptop image, but it is easy to to upgrade Mozilla yourself without modifying the rest of your laptop. Here are easy, step-by-step instructions:

Boot into Linux and start the current version of the Mozilla web browser
Download mozilla1.4.1.tar.gz (17 MB) to your home directory (the default location when you click the link) and wait until the download is complete
Download mozilla-install.exe (4KB) to your home directory as well
Close all instances of Mozilla that are currently running
Open a "terminal window" by right-clicking on the background of the desktop and selecting "New Terminal"
Click on the terminal window and type, exactly as shown:
  sh mozilla-install.exe

to execute the installation script. Then follow the online instructions to finish the installation.

When installation is done you can click on any of the Mozilla icons to start the new version. Your bookmarks and other configuration options should be preserved.
