zMap

ZMap helps you understand the "graphs" of complex-valued functions f(z) such as f(z) = z2. These graphs are four-dimensional objects and therefore can't be shown easily, but with ZMap you can investigate how curves in a domain change when they are mapped by a complex function to their range.

Before you can use zMap, you must have the "Java Runtime Environment 1.4" or better installed, and you must use a recent web browser such as at least IE 6, Mozilla 1.4, or Netscape 7. If you see a button labeled "Start JCalc" to the left you meet this requirement. Otherwise download that software and return to this page.

zMap has an extensive Help feature and includes a variety of sample questions. In principle, you simply enter a function (such as z^2) and press enter or click the check icon. To learn about the various options, please select "File | Help" or press F1.

After experimenting with the program, try to work through the various sample questions provided under Help.

For further information on how to use zMap, start the program and consult the online help.
