The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Seton Hall University invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level starting August 2005. Candidates should provide evidence of strong potential in both teaching and research. Candidates will be expected to teach a broad range of mathematics courses. The typical teaching load in the department is 3 courses per semester, after a 1-course reduction for research.

Seton Hall is a Catholic university enrolling approximately 10,000 students. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has 17 full-time faculty and grants approximately 20 B.S. degrees annually. The department's majors are solid, with an excellent record of student research, placement, and an active co-op program. Department faculty have ongoing research and grant collaborations with neighboring institutions.

The position offers the opportunity to influence further program development. A Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field is required. Experience supervising undergraduate research is a definite plus, as is some background in Computer Science.

Candidates should include with their cover letter a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a summary of their current research program, and also arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to the committee. At least one of the letters should address the applicant's teaching effectiveness and potential.
