Specifically, Students need to take at least one of the following courses (plus prerequisites, if necessary):

Who should take Which Core Course

Different departments recommend and/or require different mathematics courses to satisfy the core and to give students the necessary skills required for a particular major. Students should check with the chair of their Major department for details, or consult the following table.

Note:

  • Some MATH core courses are more "universal" than others, in particular, MATH 1101 works for many majors, as does MATH 1102 for "liberal arts"-leaning students. MATH 1202, on the other hand, is only for PSYC majors.
  • The above list shows recommendations only. Please check with individual departments for the MATH courses they require.
  • If a recommended course has prerequisites and a student can not take the recommended course, the student should take that course listed as prerequisite instead.
